“Molds and slip casting technique”
Andrew Martin is American and he lives and works in the Netherlands.
He regularly conducts Masterclass workshops, particularly in major American universities.
During this five-day workshop, Andrew will demonstrate an intuitive exploration and practice on how to work with molds beyond repetition of forms.
We will “play around” with the process, including altering cast pieces while they are still wet, sprigging, marbling, and one-of-a-kind variations of base forms.
Because of the time constraints of this process, we will not be able to glaze or fire the finished castings.
Workshop highlights:
- Designing shapes using paper cut outs and templates
- How to mix plaster correctly
- Various ways to approach decorating forms
- Altering castings
- Sprigging
- Marbleizing colored slips
- Press molding and slip casting
- One-off versions of base forms
- Beauty as the root of the work
- Why thinking is an impediment to creativity?
- Small differences with large implications
- Language as pattern
You can take away your casted pieces.
