“Building, painting and polishing”

Martha PACHON-RODRIGUEZ, was born in Colombia but lives and works in Italy.

She is a journalist and assistant to the editor for the Italian review “La Ceramica in Italia e nel mondo”.

She currently exhibits in all the important international venues where contemporary ceramics are featured.

Her work with colored clay is very elaborate and delicate.

We will work on ancient techniques to create contemporary objects.

Ancient cultures of South America and Africa have used clays released from salt or limestone (because these minerals can cause fluorescence), allowing the use of natural slips and refined techniques such as polishing.

To be able to use the same techniques with our clay, it is necessary to treat it and prepare slips with sophisticated materials.

After a brief presentation of the artist, her work and techniques that will be used during the workshop, we will quickly come to practice : there will be a demonstration and a direct manipulation of materials allowing free creativity.

Everything will be done in a single process and a mono-firing, at low or medium temperature, which will save us time and energy with wonderful results.

The lessons will be theoretical and practical, with two chapters,  the purification and treatment of clay (earthenware, stoneware) and also  the preparation of natural slips.

Workshop cost :

– 3 days  300€
