“Harmony of polishing and smoking”
Sangwoo Kim, is born in South Korea in 1980, and currently works between Switzerland and Korea.
After graduating as an Art major, he was trained in one of the oldest Korean technique : “onggi” ware (large jars).
In his current work, he draws his inspiration from inorganic nature as well as from cultural artifacts.
He is fascinated by the stones that have been eroded and rounded by the wind and weather, for perfectly smooth forms, found in river beds or in the desert.
He makes big cobble stones, using slips of different warm colors, then polished to perfection. The final touch is the smoke firing, giving them a delicate color richly nuanced by the flames and smoke.
During the workshop, you will cover the different steps of Sangwoo’s work , while working on personal shapes.
Workshop cost :
– 5 days 480€
