“Japanese traditional raku firing + calligraphy”

An intensive workshop with Mazakazu KUSAKABE, famous master of Japanese traditional Raku, will lead, for the third time at the Institute, two workshops about the ancient technique + an introduction to painting and calligraphy on bisqued pieces.

Also known internationally for his constructions of “smokeless” wood kilns, he will share with us some aspects of his technique on video.

The week workshop on the “traditional bowl” will be punctuated with small lectures on ancient techniques, history of Ceramic Art in Japan, the Zen philosophy … Several firings will take place, including one by night. A tea ceremony will complete the workshop.

Different processing techniques typical of Japanese raku will be discussed during the course. For this technique, we’ll use a grogged stoneware.

For drawing and calligraphy, we will work with earthenware.

In the one-day workshop, bisqued pieces will be provided for both techniques. You also have the opportunity to bring 2  (maximum) personal already  bisqued pieces.

Workshop cost :

– 5 days  480€

– 1 day      85€
