The idea for the theme came from reading the book by philosopher Salvatore Schiffer “Treatise on Sublime Death – The Art of Dying from Socrates to David Bowie”.
The goal is to achieve a superb and casual treatment of death.
As Immanuel Kant says, the sublime is not necessarily beautiful, the sublime is great! Is sublime compared to what, everything else is small …
The shapeless or the deformed, the ugly, can acquire in art, when they see themselves sublimated by the genius of the artist, a value of transcendence.
At all times, death has been represented by artists.
Vanity has always been “in fashion” regardless of the era.
Many artists have represented death using all existing media (painting, sculpture, photography, etc.).
But some have made of themselves, their life, their death, a work of art.
This theme can be approached in so different ways according to the times, the cultures: fear, anguish (Jérôme Bosh…), joy of finding a better world (Bella Morte among Mexicans…) etc…
It is up to everyone to convey their own feelings about Death, but what is certain is that it never leaves people indifferent and that it concerns us all …
